NEXT BOOK: Ship Breaker

The next book that the Mars Teen Book Blog will be discussing is Ship Breaker by Paolo Bacigalupi.  This book is by an award winning teen and adult science fiction writer and is set in a postapocalyptic future in the American Gulf Coast region.  According to reviews it is "fast-paced" and "vivid, brutal... and captivating."  Sounds awesome, right?

This books was also recently named a Top Ten Book for Teens in 2011, the same list that Catching Fire, City of Glass, and Shiver made last year. So you know it must be good!

This is the announcement that we will be discussing the book.  Official discussion will begin on April 14, to give everyone time to read it.  Check it out via the link above, or by searching our catalog!

Discussion Post: The Grimm Legacy

Here's is where you can spill all your thinky thoughts about Polly Shulman's The Grimm Legacy.

Here are some questions to inspire you:
  • Who was your favorite character?
  • Who did you predict was the theif of the Grimm Collection?  Were you correct?
  • If you could borrow from the Grimm Collection, what would you take?  What would you leave as a deposit?
You don't need to limit yourself to these questions, though!  Write whatever you'd like to share about the book.  Did you like it?  Did you hate it?  How could it be better?

For those readers who have not yet read the book, below there will be spoilers.  So, beware!

First Post! Oh My!

Hi everyone!

What we'd like to do with this blog is create a place where teens in Mars can come to share their favorite books and discuss teen/YA fiction in a book club-like environment.  Only you know, on the internet, the VIRTUAL FRONTIER, and not in plain old real life.

We want to start off slow in order to feel everything out and gain some members of our AWESOME NEW CLUB, so at first we're gong to try reading one book together and also have periodic chats about a few different genres or types of books.

As you may imagine, librarians LOVE to recommend books, so I am pretty excited about all of this.

The book we have chosen to discuss first is The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman.  It's about a girl who works for a library, but not an ordinary one.  This library loans objects and some are MAGICAL.  You heard me.  Sounds awesome, right?

There are three copies of this book available to our library.  Stop in and ask us to reserve a copy for you today, or go to our website (a link to which is handily located on the left sidebar of this page) and place The Grimm Legacy on hold for yourself.

We will shortly be announcing the date on which we will begin discussing this amazing book.  Don't worry if you can't finish the book before then, discussions will be ongoing and can be participated in at ANY TIME!
